951,763. Fire-extinguishers. W. G. WARD. June 17, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959; March 7, 1960], Nos. 31437/59 and 7921/60. Heading A5A. In a fire-extinguisher using a dry material such as sodium bicarbonate powder and operated by a gas capsule 4, Fig. 2, of drawings accompanying the first Provisional Specification, the operation of plunger 7, and inversion of the extinguisher, pierces capsule 4 which releases the gas through holes 2a to agitate the fire-fighting material and to expel it through holes 2b into cap 6 and out through nozzle 6a. On release of plunger 7, the spring 5 retracts the plunger and cone 7a interrupts flow. In a modification, drawing accompanying the second Provisional Specification, the plunger 7 is locked when inoperative by the withdrawable pin 8a passing through the nozzle into the plunger.
