Abstract
A fuel cell which may be reverted to electrolyze hydrogen and oxygen, has a bi-polar electrode comprising two porous layers of nickel supported on opposite sides of a non-planar conductive plate with smooth alternating <PICT:0950096/C3/1> projections and depressions and having two axes of symmetry mutually at right angles. The plate 11 may be of "egg-tray" shape as shown with supporting plates 14 on each side, each perforated at 15 and supporting the porous nickel layers. Suitable arrangements are made to supply a differing gas at each side of the plate 11. The dual-porosity layers disclosed in Specification 667,298 may be provided.
