Abstract

The electrode is for fuel cells where perfect sealing between adjacent compartments is required. The electrode plan form is rectangular with two opposite corners removed. The electrodes are arranged in line such that corners are arranged in alternate and fuel supply lines pass into and through alternate electrodes. Each electrode is made up from a flat plate (3) with a second folded edge plate (4) covering most of its surface to form a shallow rectangular cross-section cavity. The forward folded edge surface is the active surface of the electrode and has an electrically conducting outer skin (4a), a catalysing layer (4b) and a water repellent film (4c). The active plate can be in the form of an open grid carrying a graphite catalyst with a P.T.F.E. water repellant.
