Abstract
909,968. Temperature-responsive actuating- elements. MERTEN, T., and MERTEN, S., [trading as MERIT-WERKE, MERTEN & CO. KOMM.-GES.]. July 16, 1959 [July 18, 1958], No. 24452/59. Class 64 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A thermal contact-breaker comprises a leaf spring a having a high coefficient of expansion and clamped to supports c so that contacts e, f engage. On closure of a main switch, current passes through the spring a which expands and snap over to open contacts e, f, subsequent cooling of the spring a restoring it for the cycle to be repeated. In modifications, the spring is convex with the contacts e, f mounted above it, Fig. 2 (not shown), is mounted on supports of unequal length, Fig. 3 (not shown), is arranged as a changeover switch, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or carries a heating coil connected across normally-open contacts, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The spring a may be deflected into the desired conformation by an adjustable slide or screw bearing against it near each of its ends b.
