Abstract
908,298. Injection-moulding machines. TURNER MACHINERY Ltd. Oct. 14, 1960 [Dec. 2, 1959], No. 40963/59. Class 87(2). Injection moulding apparatus comprises an injection cylinder 2 and a nozzle 8 located in an orifice 9 in a fixed plate 10, which carries a female mould member 11, and a rotatable carrier plate 33 which carries four male mould members 32 and is mounted through a bearing sleeve 34 on a tie rod 16. The carrier is rotated intermittently through gearing 41, 42, 43 engaging its toothed periphery 40 and each member 32 is indexed at the injection station A by a cam 47 which cuts out the switch 45 controlling motor 44 and initiates the whole moulding cycle. The carrier is moved axially to close one mould part 32 against the part 11 by a hydraulically operated toggle linkage, Fig. 1 (not shown), and material is then forced into the cavity to form a cupshaped article 12 by a fluid-operated reciprocable screw unit, Fig. 1 (not shown). The article 12 is retracted with the part 32 which is next indexed at station B where the article is allowed to cool. At the next station C a rotary cutter 54 trims the article and removes sprue, and at D the article is ejected by a hydraulically operated ejector pin unit, Fig. 3 (not shown). An adjustment screw 25 is provided to accommodate mould parts of different size. The apparatus may be provided about a vertical axis and alternatively the sprue may be removed by a heated plunger.
