Abstract

890,374. Resilient mountings. SMEATONRUSSELL, W., and THOMPSON, P. F. June 27, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 22027/59. Class 108(3). In a method of resiliently mounting an instrument such as a camera, theodolite &c on a moving vehicle &c the instrument tripod- &c 12 is mounted on a tray 11 con-, nected by levers 5 to a second tray 3 carrying a counterbalance mass 1, springs 9 being arranged between the levers 5 and surface 8 and similar springs 6 being arranged between the trays 3, 11. The levers 5 are preferably three in number and arranged radially on brackets 10 above the tray 11 and coupled to the tray 3 by flexible joints 4. The springs 9 engage the levers 5 intermediately of their length and are coupled to feet 8 which pass slidingly through the tray 11. Tension springs 7 are also arranged between the levers 5 and tray 11. The counterweight 1 is adjustably mounted on a vertical arm 2 and preferably has a mass which is approximately half that of the instrument and has its centre of gravity at half the height of that of the instrument and tripod.
