Abstract
882,726. Cold separation of gas mixtures. LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT ZEVEIGNIEDLASSONG HOLLRIEGELSKREUTH. GES. FU. June 25, 1958 [July 4, 1957], No. 20422/58. Class 8(2). In a gas mixture e.g., air rectification process wherein incoming compressed air is cooled in pairs of nitrogen regenerators 1, 2, Fig. 1, and oxygen regenerators 3, 4 and wherein extra cold is provided by warming a cold gas e.g., lean air from point 12 of the conventional two stage column 5 and expanding it in a turbine 15, the warming is effected using an additional regenerator 11. The latter is included in the change over valve system of regeneration 1, 2 whereby either 1 or 2 may serve as the additional regenerator. As shown compressed air is cooled in regenerators 1 and 3 whilst 2 and 4 are being cooled by returning nitrogen and oxygen. In a modification the turbine 15, Fig. 2, is supplied through a duct 17 with nitrogen from the head of the high pressure column after warming in an exchanger 18 in countercurrent to nitrogen from the head of the low pressure column having traversed a duct 19, the additional regenerator in use and a duct 20. The so-cooled low pressure nitrogen then joins the expanded nitrogen which then serves to cool the appropriate regenerator.
