Abstract
760,281. Cold separation of gas mixtures. GES. FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN AKT-GES. Aug. 3, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22524/54. Class 8(2) Partial liquefaction of a compressed gas mixture, e.g. air, and remova1 of high boiling point impurities is effected by cooling the mixture at between four and twenty atmospheres pressure in one or other of change-over regenerators 2, 3 dividing the so cooled mixture at a point 16 into a major auxiliary portion and in a minor useful portion which latter is warmed by passage through coils 8, 9 within the regenerators 2, 3 then cooled in an exchanger portion 4a of a combined exchanger and liquefier 4a, 4b in counter current heat exchange with the auxiliary portion and partially liquefied in liquefier portion 4b traversed by the auxiliary portion after expansion in a turbine 5 and also by residual gas from a separator 12 to 'which the partially liquefied useful gas is fed after expansion at a valve 11. In a modification the warmed useful gas is compressed to about 200 atmospheres, precooled and expanded to liquefaction pressure before entering the combined heat-exchanger and liquefier; the combined residual gas and expanded auxiliary gas being led through said combined heat-exchanger and liquefier to the regenerator being derimed.
