Abstract

871,219. Rotary engines and pumps. NURSE, H. C. Jan. 17, 1958, No. 1750/58. Class 110 (2). In a rotary engine or pump of the rotary abutment type wherein the number of rotary abutments 10 exceed the number of pistons 8 carried by the rotors 2 by one, the inlet passages 20, 18, 16, 14 and the outlet passages 15, 17, 19, 21 are provided with a shielding device, see Fig. 4 (not shown), wherebv the function of said passages may be reversed. To this end the unit may be provided with an external transfer valve or a valve located within the core of the rotor for adjustment relative thereto. The rotor and abutments are journalled in bearings 6, 11, respectively, and the engine is operated by steam, compressed air or pressure liquid.
