Abstract

863,473. Change-speed control. SUN CYCLE & FITTINGS CO. Ltd. July 31, 1959 [July 31, 1958], No. 24631/58. Class 80 (2). A change-speed gear for a motor cycle or scooter in which a gear selecting shaft 7 is turned about its axis from a normal position for each gear change, is provided with foot-operated pedals 8, 8a actuating bell-crank levers 1, 2; lever 1 turning the shaft in one direction for upshift, lever 2 turning the shaft in the other direction for changing down. Both levers are pivoted about a pin 3 fixed in a bracket depending from the footboard 6 and they are connected by rods 10, 10a to angle brackets pivoted on arm 12 fast with the shaft 7. The end of each rod is screwthreaded and its effective length is adjusted by nuts 13. Gear changes are effected by depression of a pedal, the shaft 7 being returned to its normal position by spring means on release of the pedal. Neutral is obtainable when in bottom or second gear by partial depression of pedal 8a or 8 respectively.
