Abstract
786,426. Control lever mechanism. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. Sept. 21, 1954 [Oct. 7, 1953], No. 27282/54. Class 136(1) In a shift device for controlling the selector means of a variable speed gear for motor cycles the gear 5<SP>1</SP> is returned into the normal position after each gear change by means comprising a double acting spring 27. The lever 5<SP>1</SP> and a shift gate 4<SP>1</SP> are pivotally mounted on a bolt 151 in a housing 3<SP>1</SP> which is mounted on a handle-bar stem 1<SP>1</SP>. The bolt 15<SP>1</SP> also serves as a pivot point for the spring 27, the ends of which. in the centre position of this lever, abut against opposite ends of a stop 28 fixed in the housing. On rocking the lever in either direction, one end of the spring is deflected, by a bolt 29 on the lever 5 and the other end remains against the stop 28. A pawl 8<SP>1</SP> is provided which is urged by a spring 9<SP>1</SP> into engagement with the tooth steps 111, 11a<SP>1</SP>, 11b<SP>1</SP> on the shift gate 4<SP>1</SP>. A flexible cable 10<SP>1</SP> is secured in the shift gate 4<SP>1</SP> by a stud 31. When the pawl 8<SP>1</SP> is engaged in the top tooth step 11<SP>1</SP> an abutment 30 on the shift gate 4<SP>1</SP> lies against a bearing surface 32 of the lever 5<SP>1</SP> and an indicator 12<SP>1</SP> for indicating the gear is situated in the extreme left hand position. When the lever 5<SP>1</SP> is moved downwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, the shift gate 4<SP>1</SP> is rocked by the abutment 30 so that the pawl 8<SP>1</SP> will enter the middle tooth step 11a<SP>1</SP>. The lever 5<SP>1</SP> is then released and restored to the middle position by the spring 27 which abuts against the bolt 29. When it is desired to shift the pawl 8<SP>1</SP> from the tooth step 11b<SP>1</SP> to the tooth step 11a<SP>1</SP> the lever 5<SP>1</SP> is pushed upwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, and a cam face 14<SP>1</SP> on the shift lever 5<SP>1</SP> lifts the pawl 8<SP>1</SP> out of the lower tooth step 11b<SP>1</SP>. Through traction of the cable 10<SP>1</SP> the shift gate 4<SP>1</SP> is rotated until the pawl 8<SP>1</SP> comes to rest in the middle tooth step 11a<SP>1</SP>.
