Abstract
A steel has a composition within the ranges:- C 0.06%-0.25%, Cr 10.0-14.0, Mn 0.35-2.0, Ni 0.5-4.0, V 0.2-1.0, Mo 0.35-3.0, Si up to 1.0, N up to 0.1, balance iron and unavoidable impurities, such that delta ferrite is completely or nearly completely absent. Niobium, which is preferably excluded, may be present as an impurity up to 0.05%. The steel may be solution treated at 10.50 DEG C. for 15 minutes followed by air cooling and it may be tempered at 650-700 DEG C. for one hour.
