Abstract
An austenitic steel suitable for the manufacture of I.C engine valves has the following percentage composition: .Mn.2-16 .Cr.14-26 .Ni.less than 1 .V.0.25-5 .C.0.2-1 .Si.up to 0.7 .N.0.35-0.7 .S.up to 0.2 .Mo.0-3 .W.0-4 .Ti.0-1.5 .Co.0-5 .Fe and impurities, the balance.. The alloy may be solution treated at 1150-1275 DEG C., water quenched and aged at 650-700 DEG C.
