Abstract

850,556. Reciprocating pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. May 25, 1959 [June 5, 1958], No. 17967/58. Class 102(1). In a combined fuel-injection pump and diaphragm feed pump, the diaphragm is actuated in one direction by a thrust member, moved by a cam on the injection pump camshaft, in which the thrust member acts as a lubricating pump. A cam 14 on a camshaft 13, which drives the fuel injection pumps (not shown) actuates the diaphragm 5 of a fuel feed pump in one direction through a thrust member 18, 18<SP>1</SP> which is preferably formed of two separate members of different diameter or may be formed as a single member. The thrust member 18 is urged by a spring 19 against the cam 14 and acts as a plunger for a chamber 15, provided with inlet and outlet valves 16, 17, which pumps oil from the inlet 20 to the camshaft housing 12. The diaphragm feed pump is actuated on its delivery stroke by a spring 6 and a hand operated lever 23 is provided for priming the fuel system.
