Abstract

855,074. Supplying cops to winding machines. REINERS, W. Feb. 15, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 5223/57. Classes 120(2) and 120(3). An automatic or semi-automatic thread winding machine has means for automatically replacing exhausted thread supply cops by full cops, comprising a conveyer, means to advance the conveyer periodically to transfer a full cop thereon to a yarn unwinding station, and a magazine from which cops are automatically delivered to the conveyer, the magazine being removably supported above the conveyer. As shown, a magazine 38 containing supply cops 25c in compartments 39 is placed on rails 41, 42, Fig. 3, of a feed apparatus 28 associated with a winding machine in which thread from a supply spool 25 is re-wound onto a package 3. Troughs 28 carried by chains 29 feed cops 25c from the bottom of the magazine. To feed a new supply cop to the winding machine, a shaft 26 is rotated clockwise to bring a pin 26a into cop-receiving position and to cause, through a linkage 37, 36, 35 and a ratchet 34, stepping of chains 29 so as to feed a new cop 25c into a shoot 27 down which it slides onto the spool pin 26a. In the meantime, the driving drum 2 for package 3 has been reversed to feed back the thread end which is gripped by a suction pipe 7. Spool pin 26a now pivots to bring the supply cop to a position 25a, and a lever 13 swings down to a position 13a, whereat its upper end 15 grips the thread end 40 on the supply cop, and returns to bring the thread end to a position F1. An arm 9, previously brought to a position 9a, now returns to its original position, its upper end 11 engaging the thread F1 and drawing it upwards. Suction pipe 7 then swings downwardly to a position 7a, bringing the thread end from package 3 to a position F3 and deflecting thread F1 to the position F2. In these positions the two thread ends engage a tying apparatus 16 wherein they are connected together, drum 2 having meanwhile been halted. Drum 2 is now started up again and winding resumed from the new supply cop.
