Abstract
841,337. Control of two motors; controllers; retractive switches. SWF-SPEZIALFABRIK FUR AUTOZUBEHOR G. RAU G.m.b.H. June 25, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957], No. 20383/58. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIII] A wiper motor 1 and a pump motor 2 for a combined wind-screen wiper and washing device in a vehicle are started together and then automatically stopped in sequence by means of time-delayed switching mechanism. The motors are started by pulling rod 19 so that contact-member 5 engages strips 8, 9, 10, and springs 11 are tensioned. When the handle 4 is released, the springs retract a member 20 having a toothed rack 26 engaging a pinion wheel 29 forming part of the delay mechanism, whereby the contact-member 5 is moved to the right. The motor 2 is disconnected when the contact-member disengages the strip 10, a gap being provided in the rack at this point so that a quick disengaging-action is afforded. A further toothed section in the rack allows the member 5 to slide slowly over the strips 8 and 9 and the motor 1 remains energized until another gap in the rack effects a quick break in a circuit for supplying the wiper motor. However, an alternative circuit is maintained for the wiper motor until the wiper reaches an end-position wherein the formation of a shortcircuit causes braking. As shown, the pinion 29 is coupled to an escapement wheel 32 cooperating with a pawl 33 on the axis of which is mounted a fly-wheel 34. A spring coupling 36 allows free rotation of the pinion when the rack is moved for starting the motors. The time-delay mechanism may be replaced by a bi-metal switch.
