Abstract
848,422. Fuel injectors. L'ORANGE G.m.b.H. March 4, 1957 [March 3, 1956(2)], No. 7031/57. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a combined fuel injector pump and nozzle, the pump piston M, Fig. 1, and cylinder C are provided with passages through which fuel flows between injection periods to cool the pump and the nozzle comprises two valves T 1 , F, in series arranged inside a nozzle cap D which seats directly on the end surface of the pump cylinder C. In Fig. 1 fuel flows into the pump space G 1 through a bore E 1 in the piston M and escapes through a port N 1 , and return passage L 1 until port N 1 is closed on the pumping stroke, the pump discharge being terminated when a helical control port O 1 , on the piston communicates with the pressure space G 1 . The piston M is adjusted angularly through a pinion W which turns a sleeve K 2 connected to an inner sleeve S 1 , which is connected through a cardan joint R 1 to the piston. In Fig. 2 the bore E 1 in the piston is provided with a self-closing poppet valve F 1 and fuel leaking past the piston M is collected in a groove S 2 sealed on both sides by aluminium sealing rings R 2 , U 2 , the groove S 2 being connected to a return passage N. The fuel supply passage C 2 , provided with a fetter C 1 , is formed in a separate pillar T 2 in which are also formed the leakage passage N and the return passage through which the cooling fuel from port N, is returned. The nozzle valve F has a conical seat Y 1 , and a cylindrical portion X 1 which withdraws fuel to prevent drip when the valve seats.
