Abstract

848,029. Brake discs. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. Dec. 24, 1957, No. 40087/57. Class 103 (1). In order to permit a brake disc to expand sufficiently when heated in order to prevent cracking, a brake disc portion is mounted on a hub portion and connected by means which transmit the braking forces set upon the brake disc portions while permitting radial relative movements between the two parts. In the embodiment illustrated, a hub portion 1 mounted on an axle (not shown) of a running wheel of a vehicle, supports a brake disc portion consisting of two halves 3, 5. Bridge members 15, 17 connect each actual friction surface 11, 13 of the brake disc, the bridge members 17 comprising extensions 19 which are axially rotated on the hub portion 1 by connections 21. The brake disc portion 3, 5 is connected to the hub portion 1 by radially arranged bolts 23 which are provided with expansion sections 27 to permit radial expansion of the brake disc portion 3, 5 to take place. The bridge members 15, 17 are shaped so as to promote the flow of air between the friction surfaces 11, 13. Springs 25 may be fitted between the extensions 19 of the brake disc portions 3, 5 and the hub body 1.
