Abstract

785,430. Air-space cables. TELEGRAPH CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE CO., Ltd. April 7, 1955, No. 2648/57. Divided out of 777,340. Class 36. In an air space coaxial cable, the inner conductor 1 is separated from the outer conductor 14 by tubular insulating members 13 arranged alternately and in end-to-end engagement with insulating discs 12 to form an articulated support for the outer conductor. The tubular members 13 may be longitudinally slit to facilitate application to the inner conductor 1, the edges of the slit 23 being brought together during the application of the outer conductor. The discs 12 may be of resilient material, and are preferably shaped so that additional resilience is obtained. The tubular member may be formed in two parts, and the slots 10 in the discs 12 may be cut away so that on application of the outer conductor the discs will be tightly closed on the inner conductor and will assume a conical form. The outer conductor may comprise copper tapes 14, 15 on to which an aluminium tube 25 is swaged down. Specifications 622,247 and 733,178 are referred to.
