746,563. Construction of wings, propellers and the like. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE VLIEGTUIGENFABRIEK FOKKER. May 4,1954 [Dec. 29, 1953], No. 12947/54. Classes 4 and 114. An aerofoil, particularly a rotor blade for a helicopter, comprises a number of mutually connected elements each U-shaped in chordwise section, fitted into each other with the open end of the U facing and lying near the leading edge, the closed ends forming bracings for the aerofoil at increasing distances from the leading edge. As shown, U- shaped elements 1-4 are used, the leading edge comprising a block 5 receiving a member 16 fastened by a rivet 17, and having a duct 15 for, e.g., fuel to a jet unit. Mutual connection of elements 1-4 may be by riveting or welding, but application of a synthetic resin glue is preferred. The U-shaped elements are assembled, and fillers 6, 11 inserted, with member 5. This assembly is placed between supports 7, 8, and surrounded by heaters 14 insulated by fibre glass sheets, rubber sheets 13, wooden dies 12, and press faces 9, 10. The leading edge is milled to profile after gluing.
