Abstract

746,370. Look-out reflectors for vehicles. O'SHEI, W. E. May 15, 1952, No. 23444/55. Divided out of 746,275. Class 103 (2). [Also in Group XXV] In a rear viewing mirror for vehicles, the mirror proper 1 is carried by an adjustable joint 3 from a stanchion 2 provided with a portion abutting against the top of, and mounted for turning movement in both directions about a substantially vertical axis relative to a base member 5 adapted to be firmly secured to a vehicle wing, the portion being urged towards the base member by a spring 16, and the abutting surfaces of the portion forming with inclined surfaces on the base member inter-engaging means for indexing the stanchion in not more than four predetermined angular positions, the arrangement being such that when the mirror is pushed or hit the spring and interengaging means will allow the stanchion to turn before the tightened adjustable joint will move, the spring in combination with the inclined surfaces tending to restore the stanchion to its indexed position at least until the stanchion has been turned through an angle approaching 45 degrees. The subject-matter of this Specification is substantially the same as that described in Specification 746,275 but the claims differ.
