Abstract
737,833. Centrifugal fans &c. SOC. ANON DES ETABLISSEMENTS NEU. Sept. 29, 1953 [Nov. 15, 1952], No. 26757/53. Class 110 (1). In a centrifugal pump, fan or compressor comprising an impeller having a peripheral rotary diffuser, auxiliary vanes are secured to the outer faces of the rotary diffuser, the vanes being adapted to carry along the fluid situated between the impeller and the casing so as to increase the pressure, particularly at low outputs. An impeller comprises side discs 4, 5 which are extended by discs 17, 18 which form a rotary diffuser beyond the outer ends of the impeller blades 19. Auxiliary vanes 20, 21 cause rotation of the fluid in the lateral spaces 2, 3 between the impeller and the casing so that the whirl velocity of the fluid is substantially the same as that of the fluid discharged by the impeller, thus reducing the friction tending to slow down the discharged fluid. This reduces the tendency towards instability at low outputs. The auxiliary vanes may be located near the periphery 22 of the rotary diffuser.
