Abstract

Textile fabrics consisting wholly or substantially of regenerated cellulose and free from substantial actual crease marks are brought into contact in open width with a swelling agent for regenerated cellulose at a concentration and temperature such that the regenerated cellulose swells without substantial damage, and the fabrics are maintained in contact with the swelling agent in open width and under as little tension as possible and without creasing until they have been rendered "crease-shedding" and "wet-crease-resisting," whereupon the fabrics are set by condensing within and substantially not between the fibres such a quantity of a thermosetting synthetic resin, or by treating with aldehyde in the presence of acid to combine therewith such a quantity of aldehyde, as is sufficient, but not more than is necessary, to give the fabric dimensional stability. Specified swelling agents and resins are those specified in Specification 727,882 and the additional treatments described in that Specification may also be applied.
