Nuts are delivered from a hopper and deposited on candy bars by an elongated rotatable drum provided in its periphery with a plurality of sets of aligned pockets extending parallel to its axis which are subjected to suction. The drum consists of a cylinder 12, Fig. 1, which is fast on a hollow shaft 16 and is surrounded by a shell 13 provided with nut receiving pockets 50. One end of the shaft 16 is closed by a plug 20 which is attached to a driving wheel 21. A hollow shaft 30 mounted in the shaft 16 is closed by plugs 31, 46 and has a series of ports 38 which open into an annular chamber 37 connected to exhaust by a pipe 40. A shaft 45 mounted in the shaft 30 carries cams 47 on which bear the heads 91. Fig. 3, of plugs closing the ends of tubes 75. These tubes are contained in tubes 69 which are mounted in plugs screwed into sockets in the shaft 16 and cylinder 12. Each pipe is urged towards the shaft 16 by a spring 81 and is provided with apertures 89. The outer end of each pipe carries a plate 77 which is movable in a chamber 65 formed in the cylinder 12 and shell 13 and carries pins 78, 79 which are slidable in bores in the shell 13 leading to the cups 50. Ports 62, 63 near the outer ends of the bores lead to a chamber 64 in which is disposed a spring 80 bearing on the plate 77. While a head 91 is on the circular part of its cam 47, the corresponding cups are subjected to suction and a nut is sucked into each. As the head travels round the cam, the tube 75 is forced outwards to close the ports 62, 63 and to cause the pins to eject the nuts. An air blast from a pipe 100, Fig. 3, agitates the nuts in the hopper and a rotary bladed member 99 assists the positioning of the nuts in the cups. Specification 686,206 is referred to.
