Abstract
512,484. Electrodeposition of nickel. RUPP, N. March 3, 1938, No. 6713. [Class 41] Strongly electro-positive metals, particularly zinc and its alloys (e.g. alloys containing aluminium) are nickel-plated by using as electrolytes complex nickel-amino-sulphite solutions, which may be obtained by treating a solution of a nickel salt such as nickel ammonium sulphate with sodium sulphite solution, followed by redissolving the precipitate of nickel sulphite by addition of ammonia. Inorganic or organic conductive salts such as sodium citrate may be present, and preferably an excess of free ammonia giving a pH of 7.5. Temperature is preferably 50-60‹C, and current density 1.5-2.0 amp/dm<2>.
