Abstract
598,050. Electro-mechanical filters. RANTZEN, H. B. June 22, 1944, No. 11915. [Class 40 (iii)] An electro-mechanical band-pass filter comprises two reeds mechanically coupled to one another by a spring and forming the armatures of two telephone-receiver magnets. The input and output terminals of the filter comprise the terminals of the coils of two 4000-ohm telephone receivers T1, T2. For the diaphragms are substituted two reeds R1, R2, Fig. 3 (plan), coupled together by a hair-pin S of spring steel wire, Fig. 4 (end elevation). The bases 13 of the receivers are mounted on low-frequency plate springs 18 to prevent stray coupling. The reeds are tuned by means of sliding weights 16 and the magnetic gaps can be changed by means of shims 15, the filter being adjusted to give a pass-band from 65 to 72 or 73 c./s. Damping is introduced by eddy currents induced by the poles 11 and can be varied for impedancematching by varying the polarizing current. Specification 489,075 is referred to.
