Abstract

588,706. Vices. WILSON, J. E. July 24, 1945, No. 18887. [Class 61 (ii)] A vice comprises a base 1, provided with flanges 2 for holding down bolts and a rotary adjustable jaw 3 with a number of gripping faces mounted on a pivot 5 and a movable jaw 7 carrying the,adjustment screw 9 and guide rods 8, which are all located in off-set relation to the centre of the jaws to provide an unobstructed space between the jaws at one side for a long workpiece, the jaw 7 being also provided if desired with a rotary adjustable multiple face jaw block. A soft metal jaw 12 may be pivotally mounted in relation to a jaw, e.g. on a guide rod, so that it can be turned to lie over a gripping face of the jaw. The nut 10 of the adjusting screw is rectangular and engages a slot in the bracket to prevent'rotation. Specification 588,691 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
