Abstract

584,756. Adjustable supports for seats. CHAPMAN, A. W., and CHAPMAN, Ltd., A. W. Sept. 5, 1944, No. 16968. Addition to 562,585. [Class 52 (ii)] A thigh, back or head support as described in the parent Specification is modified to comprise an arched top, a rounded front edge 1, side walls 4 provided with elongated slots 7, and tension adjusting means for the canvas which reacts between the supporting rod 8, or pivots on which the thigh support is pivoted, and the thigh support itself. The adjusting means as shown in Fig. 1 comprises two screw threaded members 11 pivotally mounted on the supporting rod 8 and adapted to extend through holes in the lugs 13 fixed to the side walls 4 to co-operate with adjustable nuts 14. Alternatively a single tension adjusting member disposed midway between the side walls may be used or two screw threaded members may be secured to the thigh support and adapted to extend through holes in the supporting rod 8 to co-operate with the adjustable nuts 14. In a modification the supporting rod 8 is replaced by inwardly bent ends 16, Fig. 3, of two adjustable screws 15. A further modification comprises two tension adjusting cams 22, Fig. 4, pivotally mounted on the side walls and integral with adjusting levers 27. The cams are adapted to be locked in position by locking nuts 28.
