Abstract
537,872. Dental chairs or the like. RITTER DENTAL MANUFACTURING CO., Inc. Jan. 18, 1940, No. 1146. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1939. [Class 52 (ii)] A dental chair or the like is provided with a back rest which may be adjustably inclined and is provided with means counterbalancing its weight and the weight of the occupant and mechanism for holding it in its adjusted position. A back support 41 having arms 36 is pivoted to the seat frame 26 at 34 and is provided with a back rest 46 carried by an arm 47 pivoted to a slide 44 slidable on the support 41. A rod 39 pivoted to the seat frame 26 projects into the support 41 and is adapted to be gripped by a clamp 59, Fig. 11, which is releasable by a lever 67 to allow the inclination of the back to be adjusted the lever 67 being operated by a handle 79 through a screwed rod 77. This rod is provided with a torsion spring 88 which returns the rod 77 to a position for locking the clamp 59 on release of the handle 79 so causing the back rest to be held in any adjusted position. The counterbalancing means comprises a spring casing 127 connected between the footrest frame and a lever pivoted to the seat frame. A link 103 is provided between the lever 104 and the back rest frame.
