Abstract
529,847. Dyes. HADDOCK, N. H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 25, 1939, No. 15564. [Class 2 (iii)] Metal-free and metallic tetra-(4)- and tetra- (3)-aminophthalocyanines are made by reducing the corresponding tetra-nitrophthalocyanines by means of reducing agents of the alkali sulphide class (including sodium sulphide, sodium hydrogen sulphide and sodium disulphide), stannous chloride or sodium hydrosulphide. The metallic tetra-nitrophthalocyanines may be made by treating a compound of the desired metal or the metal itself (copper, cobalt, nickel, aluminium, lead or magnesium) with 3- or 4-nitro-phthalodinitrile or 3- or 4-nitrophthalic anhydride and urea. Metal-free tetra-nitrophthalocyanines may be made by heating the nitro-phthalodinitrile with calcium oxide. The amino compounds may be diazotized, and the diazo compounds may be converted into stable salts with zinc chloride, cadmium chloride or naphthalene sulphonic acids. The diazo compounds may be used as diazo components in the preparation of colouring matters. In examples, copper tetra-(3 or 4)- nitrophthalocyanine is reduced with sodium hydrosulphite, sodium hydrogen sulphide, sodium sulphide, sodium disulphide and stannous chloride, and cobalt and metal-free tetra-(4)-nitrophthalocyanines are reduced with sodium hydrogen sulphide. The diazotization of copper tetra-(4)-aminophthalocyanine and the preparation of the zinc chloride double salt is also described.
