Abstract

529,827. Ventilating vehicles. GALBRAITH, A. June 9, 1939, No. 16897. [Class 137] Air, due to motion of the vehicle, enters an air collector 2, and passes by a duct 10 through an air heater 3 and a short duct 11 to a diffuser device 4 comprising nested cones which may be fixed, or capable of adjustment, for distributing the air into the vehicle body. A fan may be included for use when the vehicle is stationary. The units are mounted below the roof of the driver's cabin 6 at each side of the direction indicators. Flow and return pipes 14, 15 carry water to and from the engine cooling system, and should the temperature increase, a diverter device 17 causes a portion of the water to by-pass the heater 3. An air filter may be provided in the air collector, and a portion of the incoming air may, by use of a mixing valve, be caused to bye-pass the heat exchanger. The heating medium may be engine exhaust gases, or steam from a flash type boiler heated by exhaust gases, or electrical heating may be employed. In warm weather, a cooling medium may be circulated through the heat exchanger.
