519,538. Dynamo-electric machines: MACFARLANE, J. C., and MACFARLANE, W. A. Sept. 20, 1938, No. 27374. Drawings to Specification. [Class 35] A dynamo-electric machine with the slots of the field core arranged uniformly has an armature winding the coils of which are of short span so as to give a flat-topped curve of magnetomotive force and a series compensating-winding in the field circuit, the inner turns of which are wound in adjacent slots, or are separated by one slot, while the outward turns span 180 degrees (electrical). This produces a reversing flux at the commutating zones. The outer conductors of the main field winding span less than 180 degrees (electrical) leaving a commutator zone opposite the brush.
