Abstract
421,711. Removing dust on generation. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Parks-Cramer Co. ; Fitchburg, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) April 27, 1934, No. 12825. [Class 8 (ii)] Apparatus for cleaning textile machines comprises an enclosed disc fan carried by a carriage, having means for producing and directing separate diverging blasts of air on either side of the machine, the blasts being directed upon the outer parts of the machine and upon and across the central parts thereof; the disc fan is driven by a motor which also drives the wheels of the carriage. Adjustable air guiding means may be associated with the fan. Above the spinning frames 10, 11 are arranged rails 15 and conductors 31-23. The carriage 116 carries a motor 45 and fan 130 which is surrounded by a casing having outlets 139, 140 directed across each side of the machine. A block 27 carries contacts which take the current from the conductors 21-23 that drives the motor, the motor spindle 78, Fig. 5, carrying the fan on its upper end. The spindle 78 carries a worm 77 engaging with worm wheels 53, 76. The wheel 76 rotates the spindle 75, and through a clutch 80, 83 drives the wheel 85, whereby the carriage is traversed along the rails. When the carriage reaches the end of the rails, the rod 106 strikes an abutment 147 or 148 on the machine, whereby it is axially displaced so that the pin 104 mounted thereon is transferred from position 109 to 110 of the leaf spring 111, and so rotates the triangular member 101, 102 about a pivot 91, causing the clutch 80, 83 to disengage, and the clutch 54, 57 to engage, whereby the wheel 60 is driven, and the direction of travel of the carriage reversed. If desired, the wheels 60, 85 may be geared together so that both are driven. The air outlets 139, 140 on the fan casing may be made adjustable, Fig. 14, by means of hinged hoods and wing nuts 163<a>, 169<a>. In a further modification, the two air outlets may be used alternately as the carriage reverses its direction of travel. This may be effected by having a rotatable plate in the base of the fan casing, and apertures cut therein to uncover only one outlet at a time, means being provided to rotate the plate periodically, e.g. by a transverse rod, operatively connected with the rotatable plate, whose ends project and strike abutments on the ends of the machine, whereby the rod is displaced and the disc turned. The conductors 21-23 may be arranged so that they are shielded.
