Abstract

375,810. Valves ; valve gear. COX, R. H., Highways, Knebworth, Hertfordshire. March 31, 1931, No. 9668. [Class 7 (vi).] Inlet at C<1> and exhaust at B<1> are controlled by piston valves C<2>, B<2> actuated by cranks or eccentrics on a pair of overhead half-speed shafts C<5>, B<5> rotated in the same direction and arranged so that the force of the explosion on one valve is counteracted by that on the other. The cylinders B, C in which the piston valves operate are inclined, preferably at 45‹, to each other. The valves are fitted with piston rings B7, C<7> at their lower ends, and also at their upper ends in the case of multicylinder engines.
