Abstract

316,386. Watson, F. M., and Guest & Chrimes, Ltd. June 19, 1928. Lift valves.-A large hydraulic stop valve of the kind comprising a stationary central stream line body 1 situated in an enlargement 2 of the pipe line and a tubular axially movable valve member 4 having a diameter substantially equal to that of the pipe 3 and adapted to seat on said stream line body, is manually actuated by a screw and nut mechanism 6, 7 arranged between the valve member and the stationary body. In the form shown in the Figure, the screw is rotatably mounted in the body 1 and engages a nut 7 formed on a tube 7<a> secured to a boss 4a attached to the valve member by radial arms 4<b>. The screw is rotated by a hand wheel 14 on a shaft 13 passing through a stuffing box 2<a> and provided with a bevel wheel 12 engaging a corresponding wheel 11 on the screwed spindle. The nut may be rotated and the screw traversed. A bye-pass valve 17 actuated by a screwed spindle 18 may be fitted to the - stationary member.
