Gas supply. - In furnaces fired with blast furnace gas, in order to ensure that before starting up the furnace the gas-supply main is free of air, an air-exhausting pipe 5 is arranged in the gas main 1 in front of the main gas valve 4 controlling the supply of gas to the burners. The pipe 5 carries a branch pipe 6 in which is arranged a test burner 7 having its mouth provided with wire gauze. The character of the flame at the burner 7 indicates to the attendant when the main 1 is exhausted of air and the gas is normal.
