Abstract
In a transparent, rectangular, plane plastic pocket 1 closed at three sides 3, 4, 5 and having one side 2 open for inserting paper sheets or photos between the front and the rear wall of the pocket a linear slit 9 is placed on only one wall close up to and along a linear welding perpendicularly to the open side and extending from one end of the open side of the pocket at the most 75% of the distance from the open side to the opposite closed side of the pocket. If more than one pocket is provided by plural welds, each pocket has such a slit. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Transparent plastic pocket
The invention relates to a transparent, rectangular, plane plastic file or pocket of the kind having three closed sides and one open side for inserting papers, photos, or the like between the front wall and the rear wall of the pocket, and in which at lesat one of the closed sides being perpendicular to the open side carries a welding for securing the front wall to the rear wall of the pocket.
The open side has a certain length being 0.5-5% longer than the width of the papers, photos, or the like to be inserted in the file pocket. In order to facilitate the inserting of one or more papers in the pocket, plastic pockets with two open sides extending perpendicularly to each other are known.
From SE-OS 307,779 a plastic pocket is known having an obliquely extending slot in order to prevent a welding seam against tearing. Only if the one edge area of the oblique slot is welded to the rear file wall the obliquely extending slot may serve to facilitate the insertion of papers in the pocket.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a plastic pocket of the mentioned kind which is simple to produce and in which paper sheets, photos, or the like may be easily inserted without the pocket being provided with extra weldings, obliquely extending slots or with an extra large open side length. Furthermore, the inserted paper sheets or the like may not tend to slide out sideways of the pocket when said pocket has its open side vertically oriented during use or storing.
This object is achieved by a transparent, rectangular, plane plastic pocket or file by which only one wall, e.g. the front wall or the rear wall, comprises only one slot, slit, incision or weakening line extending along and close up to the said welding and starting from the open side and extending perpendicularly to this at the most 75% of the distance from the open side to the opposite side of the pocket.
Furthermore is obtained compared to the mentioned Swedish plastic pocket that a photo or the paper sheet inserted in the pocket will be fully covered by plastic film while a paper in the pocket according to the
Swedish publication will have a corner protruding at the oblique recess with the possibility of the papers being dirty or dog-eared.
A second object of the invention is to provide a plastic pocket which has an open side being shorter than e.g. the left side and which, apart from fulfilling the primary object also facilitates insertion of thick rectangular objects or a thick bunch of paper sheets. This second object is obtained by a pocket of the invention wherein the slit, slot or weakening line has a length of 3-50, preferably 5% of the length of the open side.
The pocket according to the invention is particularly suitable for socalled standard pockets being closed at three sides, made from transparent plastic, such as polypropylene or PVC, and along its left and/or right side having a fixing strip with or without letter file spike holes. Thus, the invention is also suitable for plastic pockets in socalled albums with transparent pockets or show folders containing a certain number of plastic pockets being fixed together along a left edge and/or right edge.
The invention will now be described in more detail in connection with a preferred embodiment of the pocket and with reference to the drawing.
The drawing shows a plastic pocket or file 1 having an open top side 2 and closed right, bottom, and left sides 3, 4, and 5. The right side 3 is nothing but a folding of the plastic film, while the sides 4 and 5 are welded, e.g.
by high frequency welding. A fixing strip 6 is provided along the left side 5, said strip 6 in this case being provided with two holes 7 for fixing of the plastic pocket in a letter file. The front film wall of the plastic pocket 1 comprises a weakening line, slot, slit or an incision 9 along the left side 5 as shown, said slit 9 extending through a length 8 which might be up to 75% of the length of the side 3 or be 3-50% of the length of the side 2, preferably 5% of the length of the open side 2. Thereby film material by manufacture of the pocket may be saved, seeing that the length of the side 2 needs not in appreciable extent to exceed the width of the paper sheets to be inserted in the plastic pocket 1, and nevertheless it will be easier to insert the paper sheets in the pocket than is the case by prior plastic pockets having just one open side. The slit 9 may advantageously be made with a knife, the cutting depth of which at the most corresponds to the thickness of the film from which the plastic pocket 1 is made. The length 8 of the slit 9 should not exceed 75% of the length of the side 5; otherwise the risk exists that papers in the plastic pocket may slide through the slit 9 and the side opening 2 when the left side 5 of the plastic pocket turns downwards.
The term top side should not limit the invention to pockets being open at the top thereof but it should be understood that the open side of the pocket may be arranged along the right or left side of the pocket. In this case the slit or weakening line extends along a horizontal welding line of the pocket.
Even if the drawing shows only a single pocket the invention may also concern a multipocket, e.g. a sheet of transparent plastic having more than one pocket for insertion of photos or the like. In this case each of the small pockets are provided with one slit along a welding line of each pocket and perpendicu larly to the open side of each pocket.
Instead of the folded side 3 the two layers of plastic constituting the pocket may here by cdnnected by means of a linear welding, e.g.
a row of spot weldings. Then the weakening line or slit 9 may be placed along this welding and paper sheets can be inserted through the opening of the pocket 1 at the open side 2 and at the side 3, the upper part of which being opened by the slit 9. The welding along the slit 9 then acts as an edge strengthening or edge stiffening means of the rear wall along the slit 9. This will reduce the tendency of forming a dog-ear at the upper right corner of the rear wall and of the front wall as well when the slit 9 is placed along the free right side 3 of the pocket.
Claims (1)
1. Transparent, rectangular, plane plastic file or pocket of the kind having three closed sides and one open side for inserting papers, photos, or the like between the front wall and the rear wall of the pocket, and in which at least one of the closed sides being perpendicular to the open side carries a welding for securing the front wall to the rear wall of the pocket, wherein only one wall of the pocket, e.g. the front wall or the rear wall, comprises only one slot, e.g. an incision or one weakening line extending along and close up to the welding and starting from the open side and extending perpendicularly to this at the most 75% of the distance from the open side to the opposite side of the pocket.
2. A plastic pocket according to claim 1, wherein the slot or the weakening line having a length of 3-50, preferably 5% of the length of the open side.
