Abstract

A pulse frequency measuring system is provided for determining shaft speed by measurement of the frequency of pulses generated by a toothed wheel 1 on the shaft and a co-operating stationary pick-off probe 2. The pulses are shaped and multiplied in frequency by a phase-locked loop before being applied to the counters and associated logic of a frequency measuring unit 6 which in turn applies its output to a digital processing system 7. The phase-locked loop has a feedback channel including a binary divider 5. <IMAGE>
