Abstract
206,845. Schneider, H. Nov. 9. 1022, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.-In a power plant comprising an internal combustion engine combined with a turbine utilising its products of combustion and driving a compressor employed for instance for scavenging the internal-combustion engine or as a pre-compressor for the charge of the latter, the shafts of the internal combustion engine and the turbine are connected by means such as a Fottinger hydraulic coupling which allows either shaft to transmit power to the other according to conditions. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the exhaust of a two-cycle engine 1 drives a turbine 3 coupled to a scavenging pump 11 and the shafts of the engine 1 and turbine are connected through gearing 20 - - 24 including a F÷ttinger coupling 30. In an engine employing a pre-compressor and driving an air-propeller shaft through an hydraulic change-speed gear the turbine shaft is geared to the propeller shaft.
