Abstract

619,978. Variable-speed gearing. SOC. ANON. A. CITROEN. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25239. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1945. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] A Roots' blower 2 is driven from the sun wheel 15 of a differential gear, the planet carrier 11 of which is connected to the output shaft 12. The engine fly-wheel 6 drives the planets 9 through the other sun wheel, and the clutch is located between the shaft 12 and a gear-box. In a modification a throttle valve in a byepass round the blower 2 allows the torque absorbed by the blower to be adjusted, thus rendering the clutch unnecessary, the gearbox being then associated with the differential gear casing. Specification 446,572, [Group XXVII], is referred to.
