Abstract

1429446 Delivering sheets MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO 12 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973 (3)] 06359/74 Heading B8R Sheets issuing from a printing unit 12, 14, are engaged at their front edges by grippers on gripper bars 18 mounted on endless chains 16 which deliver the sheets to a transfer cylinder 26 having front and tail edge grippers 42, 44 relatively adjustably positioned to handle various sized sheets. The front edges of the sheets are engaged by the transfer cylinder front edge grippers 42 which deliver them to front edge grippers 36 driven in laterally spaced endless guide tracks 28 by endless chains 34. The guide tracks are located over a stack 38 and deliver the sheets thereto, arcuate portions 260 of the tracks causing the grippers to slow down as the sheets are dropped on to the stack. At the same time the transfer cylinder tail edge grippers 44, which have engaged the tail edge of the sheet, move relative to the cylinder 26, thereby slowing down the tail edge. All the grippers are opened and closed by cam and follower arrangements and biasing springs. The chains 34 and guide tracks 28 are mounted on an adjustably positioned frame 218. The grippers 36 are attached to the chains 34 by pivotable push-rods 286. A longitudinal sheet slitter 40 may be provided.
