Abstract

1497286 Two-part connectors BUNKER RAMO CORP 18 Nov 1975 [6 Jan 1975] 459/75 Heading H2E A high current connector has female contacts 20, 22 formed as a series of aligned pairs of ribs and male contacts 120, 122 as blades. A hinge 12, 112 is provided to support and locate the two parts and engagement is effected by rotating the plug portion about the hinge to progressively engage the blades between the series of ribs. A spring assistor 140 is said to aid engagement and disengagement by an overcentre action. The hinge may be below the contacts and may comprise a rotatable part cylinder on the socket member and a mating part cylinder on the plug member, the two rotating into a cylindrical recess as engagement is effected. Spring assistance in this case may be a simple spring cam follower against a suitably shaped portion of the cylinder and a clip may be provided to hold the parts together. The two halves of the cylinder may have formations to prevent coupling of unmatched plugs and sockets.
