Abstract

1472985 Removal of SO x and NO x from exhausts FUJI KASUI ENG CO Ltd and SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 June 1974 [16 July 1973] 28926/74 Heading C1A Sulphur oxides and nitrogen oxides are removed from exhaust gases containing SO 2 and NO by (1) mixing with chlorine dioxide or ozone gas, thus converting nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide and/or dinitrogen trioxide, and (2) scrubbing with an aqueous solution having a pH value of not less than 7, and containing an alkali metal or ammonium bicarbonate and at least 1À0% by wt. (based on total scrubbing solution) of an alkali metal or ammonium sulphite. The sulphite is preferably made in situ by solution of sulphur dioxide contained in the exhaust gas, in alkali metal or ammonium carbonate or hydroxide in the scrubbing solution.
