Abstract
1466058 Obtaining fibres; spinning yarns K KICHLU 19 March 1974 [19 Dec 1972] 58597/ 72 Headings D1F and D1W Spinable leather fibres are obtained from tanned skins e.g. middle splits, by combing them e.g. with a wire brush or comb, to separate the fibres from other components. Belly split skins may be pretreated by lining to degrade fat and gelatinous components and flesh before tanning the remanent skin. The fibres, usually mixed with particles ("dust") and, optionally, mixed with natural or manmade fibres e.g. asbestos, wool or viscose rayon, may be spun into yarn e.g. using conventional asbestos fibre, de-dusting, carding and spinning machinery. Leather fibres (with or without "dust") may be admixed with a synthetic thermoplastic binder material in particulate or fibre-form e.g. acrylic fibres, then heated and shaped to form a non-woven sheet or felt.
