Abstract

1449407 Hand tool handles; knives FEATHER KOGYO KK 9 Aug 1974 [4 March 1974] 35150/74 Headings B4K and B4B A handle for releasably holding a flat blade 12 has a central longitudinal passage 22, a bladereceiving slot 26 at the forward end of the passage, a rod 16 axially slidable in the passage, a nose 44 fixed to the forward end of the rod 16 and movable therewith, and manually operable means 18, fixed to the rear end of the rod 16 for moving the rod from a forward position in which the nose 44 engages a notch 60 in the blade 12 to hold the blade in the slot 26, to a retracted position allowing removal of the blade. A further notch 30 in the upper edge of the blade is adapted to engage a peg 28 traversing the blade slot 26. A spring 48 urges the rod 16 and nose 44 forwardly. The release knob 18 may be rotated through 90 degrees after retraction to bring ribbed lugs 54 on the knob into engagement with the end of the handle so as to hold the rod, &c. in the retracted position. As shown the handle may be assembled from two halves and is usable with a variety of blades or sets thereof, e.g. for surgical or household use or for woodworking or sawing.
