Abstract

1445115 Marking tools C STIEFELMAYER KG 7 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 37430/73 Heading B4X [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for measuring or marking out workpieces includes a scale system comprising a series of graduations fixed relative to a vertical column or a horizontal cross arm, and series of figures corresponding to the graduations and situated on a movable band whereby the zero position may be altered. The vertical column or horizontal cross arm may be fixed or axially displaceable. In the figures, a three dimensional measuring and marking apparatus comprises a base 51 adjustable on a surface plate 42, a fixed vertical column 52, and an axially adjustable cross arm 54 mounted on the column by a slider 53 and having a mounting block 55 for the attachment of measuring or marking tools. The cross arm 54 is hollow and of square crosssection, and has a pair of rollers 10, 11 about which the band 18 bearing the figures passes. The band 18 is a closed loop and is tensioned by a spring 16 acting on roller 11. A spring biased brake pin 21 acts on a braking surface on roller 10 and may be retracted by knob 25. The band 18 carries plastics rivets 19 (Fig. 3a, not shown) by which the band may be pulled along. The graduations are carried by a fixed rule 63 alongside the band 18 and a vernier 65 is provided on the slider 53. The vertical column 52 is hollow and of square cross-section and has a pair of fixed rollers 10<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP> about which the band 18<SP>1</SP> bearing the figures passes. The band 18<SP>1</SP> is tensioned by a spring 29 joining its ends. A spring biased brake pin acts on a braking surface on roller 10<SP>1</SP> and may be retracted by a cam mechanism (Fig. 5, not shown). The graduations are carried by a fixed rule 57 and a vernier 64 is provided on the slider 53. The rollers 10, 11, 10<SP>1</SP>, 11<SP>1</SP> may be replaced by plastics deflecting tracks (Fig. 3b, not shown).
