Abstract

1321580 Document shredder KETCHAM & MCDOUGALL Inc 12 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 22481/72 Heading B2A A device for shredding paper, e.g. unwanted documents comprises rotatable blades 20a, 22a mounted in a housing 10 having a hinged cover 12 in which is formed a chute 40 for feeding paper to the cutting blades, one end of the cover-member including a retaining portion 44 adapted to rest on a refuse basket or the like and the other end of the cover member including a slide 48, 50 having a second retaining portion 46 thereon. The blades 20a, 22a are mounted on shafts 21, 23 driven by a motor 30 and separated by means of plastic spacers 20', 22' thereby maintaining the blades in shearing contact; stripper plates 24 are located between the blades. The cover is lockable by means of spring catches 16 releasable by buttons 18. A switch 58 is mounted in the cover and actuated by means of a feeler wire 56 when paper is inserted into the chute 40. A safety switch 62 is provided for preventing operation of the device when the cover is open. An overide switch 68 is accessably mounted in the cover.
