Abstract

1316051 Tool changers WERKZEUGMASCHINENKOMBINAT "FRITZ HECKERT" KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 5 Feb 1971 4008/71 Heading B3B [Also in Division B8] A reciprocating conveyer for transferring a tool 39 between a tool magazine 34 and a machine tool 11 comprises a pair of guideways 1, 2 pivotally mounted at their ends to webs 3, 4 to form a parallelogram, and slides 6 movable along respective guideways and mounting a carrier 8 with a gripper head 28 for engaging the tool 39. The slides 6 are moved along the guideways by a reciprocally driven chain 9 and diagonally opposite corners of the parallelogram are mounted by slides 16 on horizontal guides 12, 13 and are movable therealong by a cylinder and piston assembly 17. In operation the conveyer is held in the intermediate position shown, with the carrier in the right hand position, by an indexing member 25 engaging the slide 16, until the tool 38 is to be changed. The slide 16 is then advanced to an end position against a stop 18 and a changing gripper (32), Fig. 3 (not shown), in known manner exchanges the tool (39) for the tool (38). The slide 16 is then advanced to its other end position against a stop 19 and the chain 9 advances the carrier 8 to a position adjacent the tool magazine 30 formed by a rotatable disc 34. A collet 37 then withdraws the tool 38 into the magazine and replaces it with one required in the next part of the machining operation whereupon the carrier is returned to its intermediate position. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), wherein the guideways (1), (2) extend in a plane at right angles to the machine tool spindle (33) the carrier (8) embodies a changing gripper (42) to effect direct interchange between the carrier and the machine tool.
