Abstract

1309287 Packaging rolled up articles ETABS RUBY SA 11 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 28418/70 Heading B8C Apparatus for rolling up an article 43, e.g. a sanitary towel, comprises a first pair of rollers 2 adjacent a spindle 1 of non-circular crosssection, and a second pair of rollers 18 movable to a position adjacent the spindle 1 and substantially diametrically opposite the first pair of rollers 2. The latter are carried on a shaft 4 spring urged towards the spindle 1 and engaged by one arm 11 of a lever the other arm 10 of which carries a roller 16 in contact with a cam 17. The second pair of rollers 18 are carried by an arm 19 supported by a roller 22 on a guide 23 and connected to a T-shaped lever carrying a roller 27 in contact with a cam 28. In operation, an article 43 is fed along a table 29 to a position between the first pair of rollers 2 and the spindle 1 and the apparatus is actuated. The cam 17 rotates so that the first pair of rollers 2 compress the article 43 against the spindle 1, the cam 28 rotates to move the second pair of rollers 18 to the right and upwards to a position over the spindle 1 so as to fold the end of the article 43 over the spindle 1, and the spindle 1 rotates to roll up the article 43 which is compressed by the weight of the second pair of rollers 18. A cam 35 on the shaft 4 then operates a switch 33 to stop the spindle 1. A pneumatic or hydraulic jack 42, Fig. 5, is then actuated to extend a member 38 which pushes the rolled article through a funnel 46 and into a carton 47.
