Abstract

1300267 Feeding and delivering sheets XEROX CORP 28 May 1970 [4 June 1969 (2)] 25640/70 Heading B8R In a copying apparatus, an electrically biasable transfer member, e.g. a transfer drum 42, is separated from a photoconductive plate member, e.g. a drum 90, when a copy sheet is sensed as being misfed on to the transfer member, so that a developed image on the plate member is not transferred to the misfed sheet. A copy sheet is separated from a pile (72), Fig. 1 (not shown), by a roller (71) and fed via rollers (74) and guides (73) to the transfer drum 42 which has rising front stops 113 and gripper fingers 112 operable by a cam 201 and follower 107. The sheet is registered against the front stops which then retract as the gripper fingers grip the sheet in registered position. The cam 201 isstationarily mounted on the rotational axis 101 of the drum and is movable axially thereof by a solenoid (211), Fig. 8 (not shown), out of contact with the follower such that the transfer drum gripping a copy sheet can rotate a number of times, without the grippers and stops being reactuated, in order that images of various colours can be transferred to the sheet to produce a colour copy. The same solenoid (211) operates stripper fingers 64 which strip the released sheet from the drum and deliver it via belts (63) (62), guide (65) and a vacuum belt (83) to a stack (84). A misfed sheet on the transfer drum is sensed by a logic circuit which tests the correct passage of the sheet leading edge past photo-electric detectors (43) which activates a solenoid 301 which retracts arm 302 thereby causing a frame member 304 on which the transfer drum is rotatably mounted to pivot away from the photoconductive drum 90 about shaft 375. This may also be done manually to facilitate cleaning.
